A 27-year-old London man was charged after he allegedly pointed a gun at a 5-year-old girl because she was splashing water out of a bathtub onto the floor, according to the Laurel County sheriff's office.
Michael Vickers was arrested about 7:25 p.m. Monday at a home off Wyatt Road, according to the sheriff's department. He was charged with wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor and menacing.
Deputy Tommy Houston was asked to accompany social services workers to check on the child's welfare after reports that someone had aimed a gun at the girl, police said.
Houston learned that Vickers, the girl's stepfather, had pointed a 9mm pistol at the child while she was in the tub, the sheriff's department said.

The child's mother initially stated that the weapon was a toy, according to the sheriff's department.

Vickers was being held in the Laurel County jail.
