The pilot who died in a plane crash Thursday in Perry County was traveling from Georgia to Wendell Ford Airport in Hazard, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said Friday.
The single-engine Grumman AA5 crashed into trees near a rural road in Rowdy about 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Kathleen Bergen of the FAA. The plane had departed from Grovetown, Ga.
The pilot was the only one on board.
The crash site was about 2 miles from the Hazard airport, Bergen said.
The severely damaged wreckage was found just off Ky. 2446, Kentucky State Police spokesman Jody Sims said.
Perry County Coroner Jimmy Maggard said the plane crashed on a hillside in the Lower Lost Creek area.
Authorities did not immediately release the pilot's identity.
The probable cause of the crash will be determined by National Transportation Safety Board investigators, which arrived at the site Friday, officials said.
