A man was wounded Tuesday morning in a shooting during a fight in the 100 block of Carlisle Avenue about two blocks from Arlington Elementary School.
The injured man, identified as James "Jimmy" Gray by friends, was taken to UK HealthCare Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington police Lt. Clay Combs said.
In front of a house, a fight occurred in the street and on the sidewalk among a group of people acquainted with each other and with a history of arguments, Clay said.
At some point in the confrontation, Gray grabbed a baseball bat to defend himself, police and witnesses said.

Two shots were fired, one striking Gray in the leg. One shot might have been fired from a vehicle, possibly a white car, police and witnesses said. Officers were looking for two people.
At least two or three people were involved in the disorder, Clay said. Wanton endangerment charges will be filed against those involved, Clay said.
No charges will be filed against Gray, Clay said. The person who shot Gray will be charged with assault.
Nikki Hockaday, who lives at the house, said Gray appeared to be doing fine.
