Three to five people were injured in a shooting Sunday night at Douglass Park, Lexington police said.
Three victims were taken by ambulance to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, said Lt. Jonathan Bastian. One of them was in critical condition, he said.
Two others arrived at hospitals in private vehicles, and police were trying to determine whether their injuries were related to the Douglass Park shootings. Bastian described their injuries as minor.
The shootings occurred about 9:15 p.m. during a basketball tournament at the park. Officers were in the park when they heard multiple gunshots, Bastian said.
One victim, with a gunshot wound to the leg, was found in a driveway near Georgetown and Douglass streets, about a block south of the park, Bastian said.
No one was arrested, and there "was a lot of conflicting information" about what happened, Bastian said.
"When the shots were fired, there was a lot of chaos," he said. "We're having difficulty identifying witnesses. So we would make a big plea for people, if they were here and if they saw anything, they don't have to meet us in person. They can call (859) 258-3700."
Bastian said some evidence was found in the park. Officers with flashlights were seen scouring the ground for shells.
