A woman who shot at two children she was caring for has been arrested in Whitley County.
A Whitley County sheriff's deputy who was responding to a call about a woman who had shot at two children went to the residence on Skaggs Branch Road on Monday, according to a news release.
Lori L. Cornett, 42, "appeared to be under the influence and was holding a loaded and cocked .22 caliber pistol" when she answered the door, the sheriff's office said.
Cornett, who had been looking after two young family members, said she had taken prescription drugs and had been drinking.
She was charged with public intoxication and first-degree wanton endangerment for endangering the children and the deputy.
Another family member took custody of the children.
