A Richmond woman was arrested over the weekend after children found her using heroin in a library bathroom, police said.

Lavada Jones, 31, of Richmond took two small children to the main branch of the Madison County Public Library on Saturday, Richmond police said. Before coming to the library, Jones had used oxycodone, police said.

Police said Jones went to the library bathroom and was found unresponsive. The children saw a wrapper with a brown powdery substance in the toilet that was later determined to be heroin. Jones admitted to police that she had ingested the heroin at the library.

On Facebook, police said Jones “engaged in conduct that created a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to the juveniles.”

Richmond police said Jones was arrested about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday on charges of public intoxication and wanton endangerment. Jones was being held in the Madison County jail.
