11-year-old boy pulled from Lexington Cemetery pond with life-threatening injuries

The Lexington Fire Department recovered an 11-year-old boy from a pond at the Lexington Cemetery on Sunday afternoon and rushed him to an unidentified local hospital with life-threatening injuries, Battalion Chief Joe Best said.

The recovery required a team of divers, Best said.

No further information was available late Sunday. Nobody answered the phone at the cemetery’s office.

There are two ponds at the Lexington Cemetery on West Main Street. A week ago, 29-year-old Luis Arevalo Jimenez drowned in one of them. Jimenez had been trying to feed ducks when he slipped and fell into the water, and he did not know how to swim, his girlfriend told 911 dispatchers.
