A woman was charged with assault Thursday night after her husband was, Jackson County Sheriff Paul Hays said.

Brenda Strohmaier, 66, suspected her husband, William Bruce Strohmaier, of having an affair with another woman and shot him, Hays said.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a shooting report at the Strohmaiers’ home on Privett Road, about four miles east of McKee. Brenda Strohmaier had called 911 to report that she had shot her husband, Hays said.

Deputies found William Strohmaier sitting in a vehicle with gunshot wounds to his right arm and side.

Strohmaier told deputies that his wife shot him as he and another woman entered the kitchen. He said his wife opened a bathroom door and fired a .45-caliber handgun.

William Bruce Strohmaier was treated at St. Joseph London Hospital and was released, Hays said.

“Considering everything, he’s very fortunate to be alive,” Hays said.
