Substitute teacher removed from Lexington elementary school for ‘inappropriate’ comments to students

A substitute teacher was removed from Lexington’s Northern Elementary School by the principal Wednesday after the teacher made “inappropriate and unacceptable comments to students,” a school district spokeswoman said.

“We will pursue this matter to the fullest extent as this conduct is absolutely intolerable,” Fayette County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said.

Deffendall said the district has high standards for conduct for all employees.

“As soon as the principal learned of the situation, she took immediate action to remove the substitute from the building and followed district procedures to exclude the individual from future sub assignments.”

Deffendall did not tell the Herald-Leader the nature of the inappropriate comments, saying the matter is under investigation.
