Essential back-to-school info

Fayette County students return to school Wednesday.

Three new elementary schools will open on the first day — William Wells Brown at 555 East Fifth Street, Liberty at 2585 Liberty Road and Sandersville at 3025 Sandersville Road.

The district also plans to renovate five schools this year: Arlington, Cassidy and Russell Cave elementaries, and Leestown and Bryan Station Traditional Magnet middle schools.

Here's what you need to know:

■ Parents can look up bus routes and bus pickup and drop-off times at http://webapps.fcps.net/street/2.2/default.asp.

■ If your child's bus doesn't arrive, call 381-3855 for the school district's transportation department.

■ High schools start at 8:25 a.m. Middle and elementary schools start at various times between 7:45 and 9:05 a.m. Go to www.fcps.net and click on individual schools to find your start time.

■ For any other questions regarding school, call central office dispatch at 381-4100.

■ Dismissal plans: All kindergarten and Early Start students must have appropriate colored tags with the name of the pickup person listed on the tag. All kindergarten and Early Start students must be met at the bus stop by the pickup person, who should be ready to present photo identification to the bus driver.

■ School meals: Meal prices are up slightly at Fayette County schools. All breakfasts cost $1.35; lunch is $2 for elementary school students and $2.10 for middle school and high school students. Reduced-price meals are 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch.
