On Thursday, Fayette County Public Schools will begin registering youngsters who will start kindergarten next fall.
To make things easier for parents, the school district will offer four evening registration sessions this year for the first time.
All children who turn 5 on or before Oct. 1 will be eligible for full-day kindergarten in Fayette County next fall.
To register your child, go to the school to which your neighborhood has been assigned and fill out a registration packet. You can find out your child's assigned school using the school district's online street directory (www.fcps.net/tools/street-directory), or call (859) 381-4315 or (859) 381-4130.
If you want to enroll your child in a school other than the one your neighborhood is assigned to, you must complete an out-of-area request. However, decisions on such requests are not made until May. School officials recommend that you first register at your neighborhood school in order to reserve a spot.
You can get more information about out-of-area requests by calling (859) 381-4122.
Regular registration for incoming kindergarten youngsters will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during these periods: Thursday to March 20; April 13 to May 1; every Tuesday from June 9 to July 28; and daily July 29 through Aug. 12, the first day of school.
Evening registration will be 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 24, March 10, April 14 and April 28.
Bring your child's birth certificate or other proof of identity; your child's immunization records; proof of a preventive health examination; proof of an eye exam; and two proofs of residence, such as a property deed or lease agreement, and a secondary document, such as a current utility bill.
You may register without these documents, but they must be provided before your child can attend school.
Kindergarten Kickoff, an orientation for all incoming students, will be July 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 2 to 7 p.m.
For other registration questions, call (859) 381-4130.
