A Lawrence County man was killed Monday when his car hit a school bus that had stopped to let off a high school student.

Pearl Fritz Mullins, 89, hit the bus from the rear with his 1994 Toyota Camry, Lawrence County Sheriff Garrett Roberts said. The car went more than 10 feet under the bus before stopping.

There were no skid marks. Roberts said it wasn't clear whether Mullins had some kind of medical problem or whether the sun got in his eyes and prevented him from seeing the bus. The accident is under investigation.

It happened on Ky. 1715 near Martha at 4:45 p.m. Mullins lived about a mile away.
