Fayette schools hire three directors

Three new directors have been hired by Fayette County Public Schools.

Kelley Crain, who had been superintendent in Fleming County for seven years, has been named director of middle schools. She replaces Michael Ernst, who resigned June 1 after it became known that he had provided two job candidates with a list of questions the district uses to screen candidates for principals' positions, giving them an advantage.

"The experience, wisdom and dedication to the education of all students that Kelley brings with her will contribute on our path to high student achievement for all students," Superintendent Stu Silberman said in an e-mail to administrators.

Two of the district's three elementary school director positions were open and have also been filled. Loraye Jones, principal at Dixie Elementary, and Ketsy Fields, principal at Yates Elementary, will fill the positions previously held by Carmen Coleman and Fabio Zuluaga.

Coleman left the district to become superintendent of the Danville Independent Schools, and Zuluaga was hired as an area superintendent in the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.
