UK chooses new VP for student affairs

The University of Kentucky announced Monday it has hired Robert C. Mock Jr. away from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to be UK's vice president for student affairs.

Provost Kumble Subbaswamy and President Lee T. Todd Jr. picked Mock from among four finalists who were brought to Lexington to make presentations to the campus starting in late January.

"The faculty, staff and students helped to make our recruitment of Dr. Mock successful," Subbaswamy said in a statement.

Mock has served as associate vice provost for student affairs at Arkansas, where he moved up the ranks after starting as a continuing education program coordinator in 1995. At the same time, he has served as a faculty instructor and is in the Arkansas Army National Guard as a hospital administrator.

Mock said in a statement he took the UK job after being "so impressed by the extraordinary faculty, staff and students' enthusiasm and focus on becoming a Top 20 institution."

Mock replaces Pat Terrell, who resigned from the student affairs post in 2008.
