Berea College and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System announced a partnership agreement Tuesday to smooth the transition of students who transfer from the public community colleges to the four-year private institution.
The agreement will allow KCTCS students to transfer academic credit to Berea College and to continue on their path to a baccalaureate degree. House Bill 160, which recently passed the state legislature, fixed some of the problems KCTCS students encountered when trying to transfer credit from KCTCS courses to four-year universities in the state.
The agreement also encourages African-American students to attend KCTCS and then transfer coursework to Berea College. That initiative will begin as a pilot program this spring as students transfer from community and technical colleges in Ashland, Cumberland, Hazard, Prestonsburg and Somerset to Berea.
The enrollment period for the initiative is extended until April 30.
