2 Fayette schools incumbents face opposition in fall election

Two incumbent members of the Fayette County Board of Education will face opposition in this fall's general election.

Two seats on the board — District 2 and District 4 — will be contested in the Nov. 2 race.

In District 2, incumbent Kirk Tinsley will face Thomas Duncan Jr. and Douglas Barnett.

Incumbent Amanda Ferguson will face Rick Queen in District 4.

Ferguson was elected to the school board in 2006. Queen, 50, a Realtor and parent, has served on site-based councils and school district committees.

Tinsley, 55, was appointed to the school board in late 2008 to complete an unexpired term. Barnett, 34, a lawyer, was among parents who criticized the school district's handling of redistricting last winter. Duncan, 47, was an unsuccessful candidate for the school board in 2006.

Tuesday was the filing deadline for the school board seats.
