UK information technology to lay off 13

The information technology group at the University of Kentucky plans to lay off 13 employees in 12 weeks, according to UK's chief information officer.

Vince Kellen said the information technology group, which includes about 250 full-time equivalent positions, is creating a new group that is focused on mobile and portal applications to provide information for students using media such as smartphones and iPads for course content, grades and schedules.

While 13 employees will be laid off, nine new positions will be created, Kellen said. The laid-off employees will be able to apply for the new positions, he said.
