Two Lexington schools briefly went on alert Tuesday afternoon after city police received a report of shots possibly being fired in a nearby park.
The schools were Southern Middle and Southern Elementary, both on Wilson Downing Road. All students were brought inside as a precaution, according to Fayette Public County Schools. Neither school actually went on full lockdown.
No injuries were reported.
Lexington police were still investigating late Tuesday. Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said a caller reported seeing or hearing a man fire shots in Meadowbrook Park, 372 Harvard Lane, near the schools. But officers found no one when they arrived at the scene and were still trying to locate the man, she said.

The report was made about 2:15 p.m., shortly before classes were to dismiss at Southern Elementary.
Fayette schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said all students were brought inside until police determined there was no one shooting in the park. School district police remained at the schools to escort students to their buses. Southern Elementary students who normally walk home were kept at the school as a precaution until their parents could pick them up, Deffendall said.
