Retired Somerset educator to chair Prichard Committee

Somerset's Hilma Prather, a longtime community leader and retired educator, has been named chair of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

Prather is a member of the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television, a former principal in the Somerset Independent Schools and a former member of the Kentucky Board of Education.

She also has served on the state Council on Postsecondary Education and the advisory board of Somerset Community and Technical College.

Prather succeeds Louisville businessman Sam Corbett, who recently stepped down as chair of the Prichard Committee when he applied to become superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools.

Prather has been a member of the Prichard Committee since 2006.
