University of Kentucky Provost Kumble Subbaswamy will not be leaving Kentucky for Iowa.
He was one of two finalists for the presidency of Iowa State University, but the Iowa Board of Regents instead picked David Leath, the vice-president of research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
"It is a bittersweet day for us at UK," UK President Eli Capilouto said in a statement shortly after the vote in Iowa. "Our provost, Kumble Subbaswamy, would have been an outstanding president at Iowa State University without question. At the same time, we are excited that he will be remaining with us as UK's chief academic officer, where he will continue his critically important work in helping lead our university during challenging times. I look forward to continuing the close partnership we are building together."
Former President Lee Todd hired Subbaswamy as UK provost in 2006.
