A viral infection kept 100 or more students out of class at Lansdowne Elementary School on Thursday and Friday, school officials said.
Fayette Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said the illness surfaced suddenly on Thursday, with about 100 students out of school complaining of stomach problems. More than 120 children and 12 staffers were out on Friday, she said.
Deffendall said school officials are following advice from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department to clean classrooms and emphasize handwashing to control the infection. No other Fayette schools have reported problems, she said.
Lansdowne has about 700 students.
