New Opportunity School for Women gets $40,000 grant

BEREA — The New Opportunity School for Women, which is still recovering from an arson fire that destroyed its headquarters in December, was awarded a $40,000 grant from the Women Helping Others Foundation.

The grant was announced in a news release Monday. The school was nominated for the award by Donna Rulon, who volunteers with the New Opportunity School for Women and is employed by Beauticontrol, a business that uses independent consultants to sell skin-care and anti-aging products.

The grant will be used to help the school recover from the fire, in which all of the school's supplies, records and computers were destroyed. The New Opportunity School for Women is a career and leadership development program for low-income women in central Appalachia.

A check presentation will take place at noon on Nov. 3 at the New Opportunities School for Women Graduate Reunion Luncheon and 25th Anniversary Celebration.
