A University of Kentucky lab specialist was suspended amid a UK Police Department investigation into whether he stole lab equipment from the chemistry-physics building on campus.
Steve Ellis, a UK staffer in the physics department, is suspected of stealing nearly $64,000 worth of equipment from April 2012 to February 2015, according to police reports.
UK spokesman Jay Blanton said Ellis was suspended several weeks ago, but that no charges have been filed.
Ellis is suspected of stealing 154 Fluke multimeters and 30 oscilloscopes, according to the police report. Both are used for measuring electricity.
UK police Chief Joe Monroe said because the investigation is ongoing, he could not comment on why Ellis is a suspect.
