J. Chester Badgett, a longtime Campbellsville University trustee and prominent Kentucky Southern Baptist, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was 96.
Mr. Badgett was a member of the university's board of trustees for 42 years.
In 2009, Campbellsville University named the student union building the Badgett Academic Support Center in Mr. Badgett's honor. He wrote the History of Campbellsville University 1906-2006 book that marked the university's centennial celebration.
"Badgett was one of the 'great generation' of Southern Baptist and Kentucky Baptist leaders, and his more than three decades as the senior pastor of Campbellsville Baptist Church touched the lives of thousands of people across southern Kentucky and beyond," Campbellsvill University President Michael V. Carter said in a news release.
