Head of Kentucky student loan organization retires abruptly

The head of the agency that oversees student loans in Kentucky abruptly retired on Tuesday.

Edward Cunningham, the head of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority and its sister agency Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation, retired effective Tuesday, said Diana Barber, general counsel for the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.

Cunningham's retirement was announced after a Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority board meeting earlier on Tuesday.

Barber said she could not say why Cunningham, who was at the helm of the agency for more than five years, opted to retire.

Robin Morley, who is currently at the Finance and Administration Cabinet, has been named the interim director until the board that oversees the Higher Education Assistance Authority picks a successor, Barber said.
