Silas House to speak at 'I Love Mountains' rally in Frankfort

FRANKFORT — Silas House, a novelist from Laurel County, will be the keynote speaker at this year's "I Love Mountains Day" rally Feb. 14 on the front steps of the state Capitol.

The rally, open to the public, will begin about 1 p.m., said Jerry Hardt, a spokesman for Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. The activist group, which opposes mountaintop-removal mining, sponsors the event.

A half-mile march from the Kentucky River to the Capitol will begin at 12:30 p.m., Hardt said.

KFTC is urging participants to bring two Valentine's Day cards to the rally. One will be for Gov. Steve Beshear, urging him to end mountaintop-removal mining, and the other will be for a KFTC grassroots leader to show appreciation for those working to oppose the mining method.

The event be the eighth annual "I Love Mountains Days" at the Capitol. The first one with a rally was in 2008.
