Democrat collects the most cash in Central Kentucky House race

FRANKFORT — Democrat James L. Kay II leads in raising campaign funds in the first reporting period for the June 25 special election to fill the 56th District state House seat.

Kay's campaign said Tuesday he has raised more than $88,000. Republican Lyen Crews' campaign has raised $49,210, said state Republican Party Chairman Steve Robertson. Independent candidate John-Mark Hack said he has raised about $6,000.

All three candidates are from Woodford County. The district includes Woodford and parts of Franklin and Fayette counties.

Gov. Steve Beshear called the special election to fill the unexpired term of Democrat Carl Rollins of Midway, who resigned from the legislature last month to take a higher education post.
