The Herald-Leader is joining three other Kentucky media companies and Bellarmine University to stage the first televised debate of this fall's race for governor on Sept. 15.
The newspaper is partnering with WKYT-TV, The Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV to host the debate at 7 p.m. in Bellarmine's Cralle Theater in Louisville.
Republican Matt Bevin and Democrat Jack Conway have agreed to participate. Independent candidate Drew Curtis also meets the eligibility requirements and will be invited to participate.
To qualify, candidates must have been certified to appear on the Nov. 3 election ballot and must have at least 7.5 percent support in the most recent Bluegrass Poll.
The hour-long debate will be televised by WHAS and WKYT and livestreamed by all four media partners on their websites.
