Lexington mayoral candidates raised $1 million for primaries

The candidates for mayor of Lexington raised more than $1 million for their primary campaigns, and spent nearly all of it.

In 60-day post-primary reports filed with the state, Mayor Jim Newberry reported raising $587,000. He showed a balance of nearly $31,000.

Vice Mayor Jim Gray, who is challenging Newberry in the Nov. 2 general election, raised $484,000, including $100,000 he loaned to his campaign. His balance was $8,000.

Gray reported $3,000 in contributions since the last report a month ago. Newberry reported no contributions for the period.
