Crash of Flight 5191

Airport opens memorial site

Blue Grass Airport has opened a temporary memorial site for the victims of Comair Flight 5191. The memorial site is near the scenic wall mural, accessible through the airport’s “cell phone waiting lot.”

Airport officials encouraged everyone to use the memorial area instead of leaving flowers, wreaths, notes and other items along Man o’ War Boulevard or Versailles Road.

“This has touched our entire community deeply -- nowhere is this more evident than in the expressions of generosity that we’ve seen here at the airport,” Michael Gobb, executive director of Blue Grass Airport, said in a news release. “The compassion and kind acts of our friends, family members and the community during this difficult time have been extraordinary.”

To reach the memorial site from the airport’s main entrance, take the first right turn off of Terminal Drive.
