Alltech has voluntarily recalled its Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale because of “flavor and color” problems.

Alltech spokeswoman Susanna Elliott said in an email Saturday that there are no health or safety concerns about the beers, “but these particular batches did not meet our stringent quality standards for flavor and color.”

“Some people have no issue with it. Others, there is an issue,” she said in an interview.

Elliott said Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale should return to stores in the coming week. Pumpkin ale won’t be back until next year.

The recall covers Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale produced between July 1 and Sept. 19. The “Born on” dates appear on the bottle necks formatted as “070116” through “091916,” Elliott said.

Customers who have the beer covered under the recall are encouraged to return it to the store where they bought it.

Other Alltech Brewing and Distilling Co. products are not affected.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers. We appreciate their patience, loyalty and support as we work to return Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale to market as soon as possible,” Elliott said in an email.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, launched in 2006, is aged for up to six weeks in bourbon barrels, according to the company’s website. Elliott said it is among the brewery’s most popular products and is distributed in 25 states.

Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale was launched in the fall of 2013. It is barrel-aged and brewed with Kentucky-sourced pumpkin and spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, according to the website.
