The Grant County Sheriff’s Department has helped produce a sobering take on the “Mannequin Challenge.”
The 5 1/2 -minute-long YouTube video, produced with Thomas Worthington of Williamstown, features chilling scenes of drug abuse and parenthood.
Grant County Sheriff Chuck Dills was approached last week about working on the video.
“We were experiencing the heroin overdoses and have done numerous things to get the message out,” Dills said. “We believe it would be a strong way to get the message out there on what we are seeing with heroin overdoses. Hopefully, in today’s society, this may impact them so they wouldn’t use drugs. It’s what we witness first-hand.”
The video, which was posted Saturday and has collected more than 46,000 views, is part of the internet-driven craze in which people attempt to pose in the most challenging or funny positions possible. On Nov. 6, the fans at a University of Kentucky men’s basketball game did their own challenge, which has since been viewed 761,000 times on Imgur, a free image-sharing website.
