A driver of a stolen car was killed early Friday when the car crashed into a tree on Chinoe Road, according to Lexington police.
The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. near Fontaine Road. Witnesses said the car was going at high speed before the crash, according to WKYT.
Joseph Taylor Plavnick, 33, died at the scene of the crash, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. Plavnick was the only person inside the vehicle when it crashed.
There was a TV inside the crashed car, and about the same time as the crash, police received a call from the 600 block of Chinoe Road about a stolen TV, police said.

Police were unable to immediately reach the owner of the car, who also lives in the 600 block of Chinoe. WLEX’s Conroy Delouche reported that the Fayette County coroner confirmed that the car involved in the crash was the stolen vehicle.
Plavnick is listed as having absconded parole after 2014 convictions of theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. He was released on parole in April and was scheduled to be supervised until December 2018.
