A 16-year-old juvenile shot and injured a man Wednesday outside the his mobile home, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened shortly before 1 p.m. on Slate Lick Road, about two miles north of London. The man was shot with a pistol, according to the sheriff.
The boy fled and was later found about a half-mile away, according to the sheriff’s office. He was arrested and the weapon was recovered, after he allegedly tried to hide it off Old Richmond Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
The teen had gone to the home to discuss a stolen weapon, and during the conversation he pulled out the pistol and began shooting. Three people were in the home at the time, but just the one man was struck.
The man was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with wounds that didn’t appear to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.
The boy was charged with assault, three counts of wanton endangerment, tampering with evidence and giving an officer false identifying information, according to the sheriff’s office. He will be detained in Breathitt County’s juvenile detention center.
