An Illinois man is accused of falsely claiming responsibility for the shooting Tuesday at Marshall County High School and threatening a Paducah teenager, according to police.

DeTaveon Day, 19, was arrested by Lakeland College police in Illinois on Friday on charges of second-degree terroristic threatening and harassing communications, according to the Paducah Police Department.

Officers were called to Paducah Tilghman High School Tuesday morning after a 17-year-old girl said an acquaintance of hers told her he’d been responsible for the shooting in Marshall County and that she was next, according to police. Investigators say it was determined that Day was not connected to the shooting, which killed two students and injured more than a dozen others.

Day is being held in Illinois until he can be extradited to Kentucky, according to police.

Police say Day is originally from Trigg County.
