People in several Kentucky counties were scratching their heads Thursday night at two loud booms that shook the windows of homes.
The booms had some people standing in their yards while others reported attempted break-ins after the concussion rattled their doors, Danville Fire Department Battalion Chief Gabe Heatherly said. Many people were reporting an explosion, but no one could pin down an address.
After police and fire officials from various agencies looked into the mystery for about a half-hour, it was learned that the sounds were sonic booms from a meteor shower, said Heatherly, who heard the booms in the firehouse.
There was no danger, and any subsequent booms can likely be attributed to the meteor shower, Heatherly said.
