Crash on I-75 in Rockcastle County kills Indianapolis man

One man died and another man was injured in a crash involving a minivan and three tractor-trailers in Rockcastle County on Tuesday.

A 2014 Freightliner driven by Herbert E. Richardson, 61, of Indianapolis was northbound at 1:15 p.m. Monday when it rear-ended a 2013 Dodge Caravan driven by Stephen G. Greene, 69, of Ashland, according to a news release from state police.

The impact caused the minivan to rear-end a 2011 Freightliner that was driven by Brandon M. Sistrunk, 40, of Kalamazoo, Mich. Richardson’s semi also hit a 2012 Volvo semi truck that was driven by Paul A. Leechford, 26, of Fuquay Varina, N.C..

Greene was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Jonathan W. Groves, 24, of Grayson, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Tueday night, police said.

Leechford was treated at Rockcastle County Regional Hospital.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran said the northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for hours at the 63 mile marker after the crash.

He said the cause of the collision was unknown. Two of the tractor-trailers involved were FedEx trucks.
