One Transportation Cabinet employee dies, another is injured after being hit by truck in Western Kentucky

One Transportation Cabinet employee was killed and another injured after being hit by a vehicle while working on a bridge in Allen County on Tuesday morning.

Titus Morris, 34, and Jeffrey Harrison, 56, both of Scottsville, were performing maintenance on the Bays Creek Bridge on U.S. 31-E just north of Scottsville at 9:43 a.m. when a bumper hitch trailer came loose from the vehicle pulling it and hit a northbound pickup truck. The pickup spun out of control and hit Morris and Harrison, according to the Transportation Cabinet.

Morris, a highway equipment operator with the Allen County maintenance facility, died. He was a 15-year employee of the cabinet.

Harrison, who has worked for the cabinet for nine years, was taken to The Medical Center in Bowling Green with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

State police are investigating. The Transportation Cabinet said the last time it had a work-related fatality was in Magoffin County in 2011.
