A Rockcastle County Detention Center inmate faces an arson charge after allegedly starting a fire in the facility last week.
Thirteen inmates and two staff members had to be taken to local hospitals for treatment after the fire Wednesday, according to Kentucky State Police. Their injuries weren’t life threatening. Seven fire agencies responded to the blaze, which forced an evacuation.
Justin Bishop, 23, of Berea, was charged last week with one count of arson and 19 counts of wanton endangerment. He is currently being held in the Laurel County Detention Center, according to KSP officer Lloyd Cochran.
The Rockcastle jail has not been reopened, Cochran said.
