At least one person was killed Tuesday afternoon when a home in Adair County exploded.
The fire department was called in about 2:30 p.m. to an explosion on M Coomer Road, which is about 6 miles east of Columbia off Ky. 206, Kentucky State Trooper Billy Gregory said. The home was engulfed in flames when officials arrived, and firefighters were still working to completely extinguish the fire about 5 p.m.
One fatality had been confirmed Tuesday afternoon, Gregory said. Officials are expecting multiple fatalities, but a search of the home can’t begin until flames are out and the area is cooled off enough to search.
Three people that may have been at the home are unaccounted for, according to state police.
Federal, state and local agencies will look into what caused the explosion, Gregory said. The ATF, the state chief medical examiner, state police and the Adair County coroner’s office will all likely be part of the investigation.
