Grand jury alleges $600,000 theft from pension plans

A federal grand jury has charged a man with stealing $600,000 from two pension plans.

George S. Hofmeister embezzled $414,000 from the Hillsdale Hourly Pension plan and $186,000 from the Hillsdale Salaried Pension Plan in February 2011, a grand jury in Lexington charged Thursday.

The grand jury indicted Hofmeister on two counts of embezzlement and four counts of taking part in financial transactions involving stolen money.

The most serious charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years.

The indictment also included a count under which the government will seek a financial judgment of $925,000 against Hofmeister if he is convicted.
