Services start Thursday for civil rights pioneer and legislator Georgia Davis Powers

Visitation and funeral services have been set for Georgia Davis Powers, the first woman and first black person elected to the state Senate.

Powers died Saturday. She was 92.

She was known for fighting discrimination during her 21 years in the state Senate.

Visitation will begin at the state Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday and continue at St. Stephen Church in Louisville from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be at St. Stephen Church at 11 a.m. Friday. Powers will be buried at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.
