Abuelo’s, the Mexican restaurant at Fayette Mall, closed Sunday. After eight to 10 weeks of renovation, the space will reopen in May as Oak Springs Grill, a new restaurant from Food Concepts International, parent of Abuelo’s and Oak Springs.

Oak Springs Grill, which will to be the first of its kind, will feature comfort food including oak-grilled burgers, steaks and smoked ribs, plus house favorites including chicken-fried steak, bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, and desserts. It also will have a selection of bourbons and wines.

Outstanding Abuelo’s gift cards may be exchanged for Oak Springs Grill gift cards, with a 20 percent increase in the existing balance, according to a news release about the change.

“This is an entirely new concept, and the new restaurant will offer an exciting, completely different dining experience for Lexington guests,” Robert Lin, president of Food Concepts International, said in a news release. “We are very thankful for our guests’ loyalty at Abuelo’s Lexington over the years, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the new Oak Springs Grill.”

Abuelo’s, which now has 39 restaurants in 14 states, opened at Fayette Mall in 2006.
