Two dead in ATV crash in McCreary County

Two people were killed Saturday afternoon in McCreary County in a crash in which alcohol is suspected as a factor, Kentucky State Police announced Monday.

State police said Tony Dewayne Myers, 43, of Helenwood, Tenn., was driving an all-terrain vehicle on Cal Hill Road in the Pine Knot community when he pulled onto U.S. 27 in the path of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck, which hit the ATV.

Myers and a passenger, Geneva J. Ridener, 45, of Whitley City, were knocked from the ATV. Neither was wearing a helmet, police said.

Myers died at the scene. Ridener was pronounced dead at Pioneer Community Hospital in Oneida, Tenn., state police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, John Chitwood, 72, of Whitley City, was treated for minor injuries, police said.

Police are investigating whether alcohol use by Myers contributed to the wreck.
