Man slows to avoid crash, gets rear-ended and killed in Mercer County

A Spencer County man who slowed down on a highway because a car crossed into his lane, was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer and killed Thursday in Mercer County, Kentucky State Police said.

The crash occurred on U.S. 127 just north of Harrodsburg, near Anderson Dean Community Park.

About 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Scott R. Alcorn, 59, of Taylorsville was traveling north on U.S. 127, police said.

Alcorn slowed avoid colliding with the oncoming vehicle. His car was then rear-ended by a tractor-trailer, police said. Alcorn died at the scene.

The truck driver was Duane Brownell, 47, of Greenbrier, Tenn, police said.
