A man was killed Wednesday night when a Knox County sheriff’s deputy shot him on Ky. 223 following a reported child abduction, according to Kentucky State Police.
The Knox County sheriff’s office received a call Wednesday night saying Jessie J. Mills, 30, of Flat Lick was intoxicated and had abducted a child, according to state police. When a Knox County deputy and constable found Mills and the child walking along Ky. 223 at about 11 p.m., there was an altercation.
Mills died on the scene after being shot by the sheriff’s deputy, according to state police.
The deputy and constable have been placed on administrative leave, according to state police. Their names have not yet been released.

State police are investigating the shooting. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
