Lexington man sentenced for child exploitation

A Lexington man was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for the possession and distribution of child pornography.

On July 12, Chief U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell formally sentenced Kevin Labona, 64, for his offenses.

Beginning in 2013, Labona distributed images of child pornography that were violent, sadistic and masochistic in nature, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

He also distributed the images by showing them on his phone to four minors in order to entice them into having sexual contact with him, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Labona sexually exploited more than one of the minors in 2014.

According to court documents, the judge ordered Labona to undergo the Bureau of Prisons sex offender treatment program, a mental health assessment and, if necessary, participate in mental health counseling.

Labona has a criminal history of illegal sexual conduct with minors which dates back to 1986, according to the release.

Under federal law, he must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
