Police search for 5-year-old boy whose mother fled from police in Laurel County

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a 5-year-old boy who was in the company of his mother when she fled from police early Saturday.

Brayden Epperson was in a car with his mother, Jamie Allen, 31, when she fled a residence off Sally’s Branch Road at about 3 a.m., according to the sheriff’s department.

The car in which they left was later found abandoned, and Allen is thought to have been under the influence of drugs.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence, about 4 miles east of London, by someone who said that Allen was there without the homeowner’s permission and that the homeowner wanted her removed. The caller said there were warrants out for Allen’s arrest.

Officers who arrived at the home talked to the homeowner, Dustin Morgan, who said he didn’t know her and that she wasn’t there, the sheriff’s department said. They later determined that Morgan was Allen’s boyfriend.

While they were talking to Morgan, Allen, with Brayden in tow, left “at a high rate of speed,” almost hitting one of the officers.

The vehicle was found abandoned at about 5:30 a.m. near a residence on Pistol Creek Road about 8 miles east of London.

Allen might have been under the influence of methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office.

Morgan, 20, was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center and charged with hindering prosecution or apprehension, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Anyone with information about Allen’s or Brayden’s whereabouts may call the sheriff’s office at 606-878-7000.

Brayden is 3 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds. He has short blond hair, blue eyes and a medium build.
