Adair County driver killed in fiery crash Friday

A driver was killed late Friday night in Adair County when a car left the road at the intersection of Chestnut Corner and Sulphur Creek roads in Columbia, according to Kentucky State Police.

The driver, who has not been identified, was in a 1999 Honda four-door, traveling west on Chestnut Corner Road about 11:49 p.m. The car left the road, traveled into a stream, struck a tree and burst into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said that the owner of the vehicle was contacted and the driver is believed to have been a family member. An autopsy will be performed to confirm the identity, state police said. The collision remains under investigation.
