Toddler hit, killed by vehicle in Rockcastle

A 17-month-old toddler died on a Rockcastle County road Wednesday after he left the porch of a nearby house and was hit by a car, police said.

The child was hit about 10:45 a.m. by a Ford Edge traveling southbound on Old State Road. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office.

Family members identified the boy as Carson Thomas Watts, WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s news partner, reported.

The boy had wandered off the porch of a nearby residence into the road before he was hit, state trooper Lloyd Cochran said. Police contacted Social Services to investigate and are consulting with a county attorney to determine if any charges should be filed.

Cochran said the driver, whose name has not been released, has been cooperative. Police do not suspect drug or alcohol use to be a cause of the collision.
